Mobile App Onboarding Strategy for an InsurTech App

Design a privacy-aware, high-conversion mobile onboarding flow for a micro-insurance app.

The Scenario

SureCover is a South African micro-insurance provider launching an app for informal workers. Because users are highly sensitive to mobile data costs (airtime/data) and wary of sharing personal details before seeing value, the onboarding must balance education, trust, permissions (location/camera), and POPIA compliance.

The Brief

Design a complete mobile onboarding strategy that minimizes early friction. Decide when to ask for high-friction permissions, how to handle data-sensitive assets, and how to communicate value before registration.

Deliverables

  • A storyboard or interaction flow mapping the first-time user experience from app launch to completed setup
  • Permission-request strategy detailing when and how to ask for camera and location permissions with context screens
  • Copy deck and UX design recommendations for POPIA-compliant consent gates that remain user-friendly
  • A data-saving configuration proposal (e.g., optional image loading or offline capability alerts) for data-conscious users

Submission Guidance

The focus is on user psychology and localized constraints (such as expensive data and high security awareness in SA). Vague descriptions will fail.
